What's inside the cartridge

8 Stages of Filtration

Eight media layers, each handling a different part of the job — from sediment capture to chlorine reduction to a final polish before water reaches your skin.

01

Stainless Steel Mesh

Captures sediment, rust, and large particles before they reach the filtration media.

02

KDF55 Media

Reduces chlorine through a redox (reduction-oxidation) process and helps inhibit bacterial growth inside the filter.

03

Calcium Sulfite

Adds chlorine reduction that stays effective in hot water, where activated carbon is less efficient.

04

Activated Carbon

Reduces chlorine taste and odor, along with some organic compounds, through adsorption.

05

Ceramic Balls

Help balance water pH for a gentler shower feel on skin and hair.

06

Tourmaline

Releases negative ions that may help soften the feel of water on skin and hair.

07

Alkaline Ceramic Balls

Support pH balance for a smoother, less harsh shower experience.

08

Fine Mesh Filter

A final pass that catches any remaining fine particulates before water reaches your skin.

90 days of filtering

See What Your Filter Catches

This is a real replacement cartridge from a GoodFor customer after about 90 days of use. What you're looking at is what was in their shower water — sediment, rust, and particulate the media pulled out before it reached their skin, hair, and lungs.

It's a useful reminder of why point-of-use filtration matters at the shower head, not just at the kitchen tap.

Made to do one job well

What This Filter Does

Proven media, a fair price, and an honest account of the rest.

The 8-Stage Shower Filter is a point-of-use filter that reduces chlorine and odor in shower water before it reaches your skin, hair, and lungs. It uses well-established filtration media to do one job, and do it well.

That job matters more than it sounds. The EPA allows up to 4 mg/L of chlorine in municipal water as a disinfection residual. That residual is what you shower in — and what can dry out skin, strip hair, and leave a chemical smell in a steamy bathroom.

This filter uses KDF55, activated carbon, and calcium sulfite — the same core media found in filters that cost two to three times more. The difference is the price.

If you ever need more — whole-home chlorine and chloramine removal or water softening — GoodFor carries those systems too. That's the advantage of buying from a water company, not just a filter brand.

The honest part

What We Won't Tell You

Most shower filter brands overclaim — promising to remove "99% of contaminants" or "heavy metals and PFAS" with no third-party certification behind it. Here is what this filter does not do, stated plainly.

It is not NSF certified

This filter does not carry NSF/ANSI performance certifications — and neither do most shower filters in this price range, including many that cost significantly more.

The media we use (KDF55, activated carbon, and calcium sulfite) are well-established and widely used, but we won't claim certified performance we can't document.

It does not reduce chloramine

Chloramine needs far more contact time than any shower filter can provide. If your utility uses chloramine instead of free chlorine, a whole-home system is the right solution — not a shower filter.

If you're not sure which your utility uses, we can help you find out before you buy.

It does not soften water

Hard water scale needs a softener or whole-home conditioning system. This filter can reduce the drying effect of chlorine on skin and hair, but it does not remove the calcium and magnesium that cause hardness.

If hard water is your main concern, a whole-home system matched to your water is the right tool — and we carry those too.

Shower Filter vs. Whole-Home System

A shower filter treats one shower. A whole-home system treats every tap, shower, and appliance — and carries certified performance. Here's how to tell which one your situation calls for.

Some of your

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this shower filter reduce chloramine?

No. Chloramine requires significantly more contact time than any shower filter can provide — this applies to our filter and every other shower filter on the market, regardless of what they claim. If your municipality uses chloramine (many do), a whole-home filtration system is the right solution. GoodFor offers free consultations to help you find out what's in your water and what system fits.

How often do I need to replace the filter?

We recommend replacing the cartridge every 90 days for best performance. Depending on your incoming water quality and shower usage, cartridges can last up to 6 months. A returning chlorine smell or reduced water flow is the sign it's time. Subscribe & Save sets up automatic delivery so you never have to track it.

Will this filter reduce my water pressure?

Most customers report no noticeable change in water pressure. The multi-stage design is built to maintain flow while filtering. If you do notice reduced pressure, it's usually a sign the filter is catching sediment and the cartridge needs replacement.

Does this work with my shower head?

Yes. The filter fits all standard ½" threaded shower arms, which covers the vast majority of showers in the U.S., and works with fixed, handheld, and rain shower heads. You keep your existing shower head — the filter installs inline between the arm and the head.

Is this filter certified?

This filter does not carry NSF/ANSI performance certifications. The media it uses — KDF55, activated carbon, and calcium sulfite — are industry-standard materials with well-documented properties, but we won't claim certified performance we can't verify. If third-party certification matters to you, GoodFor's whole-home systems carry WQA Gold Seal certification under NSF/ANSI standards.

Can a shower filter help with dry skin and hair?

Many GoodFor customers report softer skin and hair after installing the filter. Chlorine is a known irritant that can strip natural oils from skin and hair, so reducing chlorine at the shower head may mean less dryness and better results from your existing hair and skin products. Individual results vary, and GoodFor does not make medical claims.

I own my home — should I get this or a whole-home system?

A shower filter is a strong starting point — it's affordable, installs in minutes, and you'll feel the difference right away. But it only treats one shower. A whole-home filtration system treats every tap, shower, and appliance in the house. Many GoodFor customers start with a shower filter and add whole-home filtration later. Book a free consultation and we'll help you decide what makes sense for your home.

What's the difference between this and a $150 shower filter?

Most shower filters in the $100–$170 range use the same core media we do — KDF, activated carbon, and calcium sulfite. The price difference is usually branding, packaging, and marketing spend, not filtration performance. We keep our price fair because we'd rather earn your trust here and be the company you call when you're ready for a larger investment in your water.
