You have probably heard about structured water from someone you trust and come away unsure whether it is physics or marketing. The plain version: these devices spin the water through a vortex on its way to your glass, so it spirals instead of running straight. No power, no cartridges, nothing to replace. What the research can and cannot say about it yet is further down this page, in full.
It is the only question that matters before you pick a device. A structuring device does not clean water. It changes how the water moves, and nothing else. So if your water still has chlorine or lead or PFAS in it, structuring it gives you structured water with chlorine and lead and PFAS in it.
Which means there are really only three answers on this page.
Reverse osmosis, minerals, and structuring, in one under-sink system
This is the one most people on this page end up with, and the one we would point you to first. All three steps, in order, under the sink: WQA Gold Seal certified reverse osmosis takes the contaminants out, the Sango Coral puts 70+ trace ocean-derived minerals back, and the UMH Pure structures the water on its last few feet to the faucet.
You are not buying structuring on its own here. You are buying the two things that have to happen first, with the structuring already included. That is why it costs about twice what the UMH Pure costs alone, and why it is the best value on this page.
Under the sink, after your filter
Inline, plumbed in, invisible. This is the same unit that goes inside the Hydration Stack, sold on its own for the person who has already done the first two steps. It goes last, closest to the faucet, after your remineralization filter if you have one. Maintenance-free once it is in: no power, no cartridge, nothing to replace.
Inline on the main line
Structures the water before it reaches any fixture, so every shower, bath, tap and garden hose in the house is covered. Two sizes, matched to your main line. Maintenance-free, like the UMH Pure. It pairs with a whole-home filtration system the same way the Pure pairs with reverse osmosis: filtration first, structuring after.
Three freestanding devices, no installation and no plumber. They structure whatever water you put through them, which means the filter-first rule still applies: run them on filtered water and they do the job they are meant to do.
On the faucet, in the shower, or in your bag
Screws onto a standard faucet aerator, or between the shower arm and the head. Add the travel kit and it goes in your bag for hotels, restaurants and the gym. 7 glass vials and a solid quartz pyramid that splits the stream into a double helix. 2.17 inches across, 0.79 lb.
On the counter, until you want to take it with you

The centerpiece, and the highest flow of the freestanding devices

A structured water device is a passive inline or freestanding unit that puts water through a vortex, with no electricity and no filtration media. Inside a UMH device, water passes handcrafted borosilicate glass vials as it turns. In the UMH Live and the UMH Alpha a solid quartz pyramid splits the stream into a double helix as well; the in-line Pure and Master do the same work with the vials alone, and the Delta uses a set of ten gemstones. Nothing is added to the water and nothing is taken out of it. What changes is how the water moves.
That last sentence is the whole category, and it is worth being clear about it. A structuring device is not a filter. It reduces no chlorine, lead or PFAS, and it is not certified to. If your water needs cleaning, that is a filter's job, and it has to happen first. Structuring is what you do after the water is already clean.
The idea behind it is borrowed from moving water in nature. Water in a stream is never still: it folds over rocks, spirals, drops and spirals again, and by the time it surfaces at a spring it has been through thousands of those turns. Water in a municipal pipe has been pushed in a straight line under pressure for miles. These devices put some of that motion back in the last few feet before your glass.
Structured water draws more hype than almost anything else in this category, and most of it does the idea no favors. Here is how we actually think about it.
A stream never runs in a straight line. It spirals over every rock and drop on its way down, and a spring is water that has been through thousands of those turns. A pipe pushes water straight, under pressure, for miles. Putting the spiral back in the last few feet before the glass is not a strange idea. It is the ordinary one. Water moving through a vortex behaves differently from water moving in a straight line, and that is the only mechanism a structuring device relies on.
Taste, first and most often: that it tastes like spring water instead of nothing, and that it is noticeably different to drink. Structuring has become the part of the Hydration Stack people mention first when they call back, which is why it has never come out of the Stack. That is what customers report, in their words, and we pass it on as exactly that.
Whether the change lasts long enough, and matters enough, to affect the person drinking the water. Research suggests the mechanism is real. The studies are small and most are in animals, so no health outcome is established and we will not claim one. We would rather say that plainly here than have you find it out later.
That is also why we sell structuring as the last step and never the first. On water that is already filtered and remineralized, it is doing the one thing it is for.

The order matters, and it is the thing people most often have backwards.
Reverse osmosis for drinking water, or a whole-home system for every tap. This is where contaminants are dealt with.
Reverse osmosis takes minerals out along with everything else. The Sango Coral adds over 70 trace ocean-derived minerals back.
Last, always. If you have a UMH Pure under the sink it goes after the Sango Coral, closest to the faucet.
The Hydration Stack is those three steps bought together, which is why it is the first thing on this page. If you already have steps one and two, the UMH Pure is step three on its own.
If you are on city water with no filtration at all, a structuring device will still structure your water, and it will still be city water. Start with the filter.
The Hydration Stack is not in this table because it is a three-part system rather than a structuring device. Its structuring stage is the UMH Pure column.

Structured water is water that has been put through a vortex so that it moves the way water moves in nature rather than in a straight pressurised line. A structuring device creates that motion mechanically, with no electricity and nothing added to the water. It is not filtration and it does not change what is dissolved in the water.
The mechanism is established fluid dynamics: water moving through a vortex behaves differently from water pushed in a straight line. Whether that difference produces a measurable health outcome in the person drinking it is still being studied, and the research that exists is small and largely in animals. We will not tell you it is settled, because it is not.
For the result most people are after, yes. The order is filter, then put minerals back if you are on reverse osmosis, then structure. A structuring device will work on unfiltered city water, but it will not make that water clean. If you are starting from nothing, the Hydration Stack is all three steps in one system.
If you do not filter your water yet, the Hydration Stack, because it includes the structuring stage along with the two steps that make it worth doing. If you already have reverse osmosis, the UMH Pure. If you want the whole house rather than one tap, the UMH Master. If you do not want to touch the plumbing at all, the UMH Live.
The UMH Pure is the structuring unit on its own. The Stack is that same unit plus the two stages that come before it: WQA Gold Seal certified reverse osmosis and the Sango Coral remineralization filter. If you already have those two, buy the Pure. If you do not, the Stack costs about twice as much and gives you all three.
You can buy bottled water sold as structured, but any structure starts to break down once the water is sitting still in a bottle. A device structures the water as it leaves your tap, which is why we sell devices rather than bottles.

No. It reduces no contaminants and carries no NSF/ANSI certification, because it is not a filtration device. If your water needs cleaning, use a filter or a reverse osmosis system first and structure afterwards.
Most people say yes, and it is the first thing they mention. Taste is subjective and we cannot promise you will notice it, which is why there is a 30-day return window on unused items.
No. Alkaline water is about pH and mineral content, which is chemistry. Structuring is about how the water moves, which is physics. They are independent, and the two are often combined: the Sango Coral handles minerals, the UMH device handles structure.
Neither. Every UMH device is passive, with no power supply, no cartridges and no consumables. The Live, Alpha and Delta are cleaned once or twice a year. The Pure and Master are maintenance-free once installed.

The Live can, via a 1/2 inch thread adapter between the shower arm and the shower head. If you are also using a GoodFor shower filter, the filter goes on first and the Live goes last. The Master structures every shower in the house from the main line.
Clear alcohols are fine, rinse straight after. Never use one for juice, milk, carbonated drinks, tea, coffee, or anything with sediment in it.
If your water is already filtered, a structuring device is the last thing between the pipe and the glass. If it is not, the Hydration Stack is the shortest way to both.
