What the UMH Live does
The UMH Live is a 24 karat gold-plated lead-free brass sphere holding 7 supercharged borosilicate glass vials and one solid quartz crystal pyramid. The pyramid splits the stream and sends it through a double helix. It is the same unit that sits inside the UMH Alpha, and the only one you can fit to a shower head yourself, with no plumbing and nothing to undo when you move out.
It is not a filter. It reduces nothing and carries no NSF certification. Run it on water that is already filtered and it does the job it is meant to do. Run it on untreated city water and you have structured city water.
Three ways to use it
On a faucet, it threads straight onto a standard aerator with no tools. In a shower, it fits via a 1/2 inch thread adapter between the shower arm and the head; if you also run a GoodFor shower filter, the filter goes first and the Live goes last. With the travel kit, you pour water through the funnel by hand into a glass or bottle.
One pass is sufficient. Further passes increase crystallinity if you want them.

Structured water draws more hype than almost anything else in this category, and most of it does the idea no favors. Here is how we actually think about it.
A stream never runs in a straight line. It spirals over every rock and drop on its way down, and a spring is water that has been through thousands of those turns. A pipe pushes water straight, under pressure, for miles. Putting the spiral back in the last few feet before the glass is not a strange idea. It is the ordinary one. Water moving through a vortex behaves differently from water moving in a straight line, and that is the only mechanism a structuring device relies on.
Taste, first and most often: that it tastes like spring water instead of nothing, and that it is noticeably different to drink. Structuring has become the part of the Hydration Stack people mention first when they call back, which is why it has never come out of the Stack. That is what customers report, in their words, and we pass it on as exactly that.
Whether the change lasts long enough, and matters enough, to affect the person drinking the water. Research suggests the mechanism is real. The studies are small and most are in animals, so no health outcome is established and we will not claim one. We would rather say that plainly here than have you find it out later.
That is also why we sell structuring as the last step and never the first. On water that is already filtered and remineralized, it is doing the one thing it is for.

No NSF/ANSI certification, because this is a structuring device and not a filtration device. It reduces no contaminants.
Want every shower, not just the one?
The UMH Live is the one you fit yourself, which is why it suits an apartment or a rental. If the house is yours and you want the whole of it covered, the UMH Master goes in once on the main line and every shower, bath and tap runs structured after it.
Is this a filter?
No. It reduces no contaminants and carries no NSF/ANSI certification, because it is not a filtration device. If your water needs cleaning, use a filter or a reverse osmosis system first and structure afterwards.
Is structured water scientifically proven?
The mechanism is established fluid dynamics: water moving through a vortex behaves differently from water pushed in a straight line. Whether that difference produces a measurable health outcome in the person drinking it is still being studied, and the research that exists is small and largely in animals. We will not tell you it is settled, because it is not.
Do I need to filter before I structure?
For the result most people are after, yes. The order is filter, then put the minerals back if you are on reverse osmosis, then structure. A structuring device will work on unfiltered city water, but it will not make that water clean.
Can I use it in the shower?
Yes. It is the only UMH device you fit to the shower yourself, which is what makes it the one for apartments and rentals. The UMH Master also covers every shower in the house, but it installs on the main line, so it is for a home you own. It installs via a 1/2 inch thread adapter between the shower arm and the shower head. If you also run a GoodFor shower filter, the filter goes on first and the Live goes last.
Will it fit my faucet?
It threads onto a standard faucet aerator, on kitchen and bathroom faucets, with no tools.
How is it different from the Alpha?
The Alpha is this same sphere set in a gold stand with a glass funnel and a 7 inch glass base. The structuring parts are identical. The Alpha adds the stand; the sphere lifts out and travels.
How do I clean it?
Once or twice a year. Boil a pot of water deep enough to submerge the device, take it off the heat, wait ten minutes, dissolve six tablespoons of baking soda, submerge the device for thirty minutes, then rinse and dry. Reassemble with every washer back in place.
Can I structure anything other than water?
Clear alcohols are fine, rinse straight after. Never use one for juice, milk, carbonated drinks, tea, coffee, or anything with sediment in it.
What is the warranty?
Five years, covering manufacturing defects. The same on every UMH device.
Where is it made?
Hand-built in Austria, in 24 karat gold-plated lead-free brass, and TÜV EU certified. That certification covers how the device is built, not a performance claim about the water.

If your water is already filtered, the UMH Live is the last thing between the pipe and the glass. If it is not, start with the filter: the Hydration Stack is reverse osmosis, minerals and this same structuring stage in one system.
